HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR COMEDY: Jokes about my own inadequacies and family life, occasional bit of social commentary.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO FIRST GET UP THERE AND GIVE COMEDY A TRY: I couldn’t think of anything else I wanted to do for a living.
FAVOURITE STAND-UP COMEDIAN: Sadly no longer with us, but George Carlin.
BEST EVER SITCOM: The original Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.
WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE THE MOST ABOUT THE COMEDY INDUSTRY: The club circuit is wonderful, because much of the time it works on merit. Beyond that, the rest of industry is mired in identity politics- comics get work based not on their abilities, but on their gender, ethnicity and a few other box ticking criteria. And, I’m afraid, where merit is not the first priority in a profession, all that is left is corruption, which is where we are now- a once fair, now terribly corrupt industry.
DOES YOUR PARTNER (IF APPLICABLE) LIKE COMEDY, AND THAT YOU ARE A COMEDIAN: She doesn’t really care about it, she’s not very interested, which is brilliant. Because when I’m not working, I’d rather think about or talk about anything but comedy.
TOUGHEST TOWN/CITY TO PLAY AND WHY: I think particular rooms tend to be hard to play, rather than towns or cities. People are the same wherever you go, but a venue with a high ceiling, or bad sound and lighting often makes for a poor experience.
WHICH OTHER COMEDIAN WOULD YOU PAY TO WATCH: Bill Burr, Micky Flanagan, Dave Chappelle, not many others.
WHAT ELSE DO YOU GET UP TO APART FROM MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH: I spend most of my time looking after my two year old daughter. I’ve been running since I was twelve years old, so if I get a bit of time to myself that’s what you’ll find me doing.
WHICH FAMOUS PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO CUSTARD-PIE IN THE FACE: Apart from the money, I think the lives of famous people are generally pretty cursed, so I wouldn’t want to make things any worse for them.
