Before I even got involved in comedy I went to the Edinburgh Fringe with my then girlfriend (we are now married – result!) and we decided to go and see a show by a French bloke called Marcel Lucont. He looked suave, seemed cocky, was pictured drinking Chateauneuf du Pape and was clearly nothing like your average geeky, self-conscious comedian. I was also aware he was a character, and I have always loved character comedy and sketch shows with strong characters on them. We loved it.
Ever since then my wife and I have used Marcel Lucont quotes to each other (not in the bedroom, that would be weird), and we have seen him several times since. I now even have the honour of occasionally gigging with him. And booking him. When I am wondering how to impress my wife I think to myself, “what would Marcel do?” and it always works. Legend.
We are absolutely delighted to have Marcel (I won’t reveal the identity of the person who plays Marcel) at The Stand-Up Club on Friday 8th and Saturday 9th June, and if there’s one act I urge you to come and see it is he.
