We are absolutely delighted to have been able to donate £275 to UNICEF to help children from the Ukraine conflict. Our benefit show last Thursday (10 March) at the Comedy Pub in Piccadilly was a big success and we’d like to thank all the acts involved; Jake Steers, Stefan Paolini, Caroline Mabey, Ali Woods, Eddie Fortune and Radu Isac.

We are hoping to put on a couple more charity shows during the year, keep checking the website for more info…

Thanks
The Stand-Up Club

The Stand-Up Club are absolutely delighted to have received a grant from the Arts Council as part of the Cultural Recovery Fund 2, which means we can put on socially-distanced shows and make sure comedians and audiences can enjoy the comedy they love. Thank you so much! We cannot wait to get going again!  💙

Stand Up Fest 2019 is now just less than one week away and it’s time to turn our spotlight on to the final act of the day – the very wonderful Mr Josh Widdicombe.

Josh is best known for the multi-award winning Channel 4 series The Last Leg, his critically acclaimed BBC sitcom JOSH and for being on of the UK’s best live comedians!

He also is famous for having an incredibly recognisable voice (apparently everyone can do an impression of it!). It’s probably so familiar because you’ve heard it somewhere before…

“If they made frustration an Olympic Sport, he would win every time”

Evening Standard

As a regular on our screens, Josh has starred in BBC One’s Live At The Apollo, Would I Lie To You and Celebrity Mastermind, BBC Two’s QI, Mock the Week and Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats and Alan Carr: Chatty Man.

Check him out on Live at the Apollo discussing the highs and lows of turbulence:

“Hugely appealing stand-up”

The Guardian

Josh has also been a star of cult hit Taskmaster. So much so, that he actually won the first series. With dedication like this it’s no wonder why…

Josh’s last tour ‘What Do I Do Now…’ saw him receive critical acclaim and his latest show is touted to be even better! Entitled, ‘A Bit Much’, the show will be a very funny night of grumbles and jokes in which Josh will finally tackle the hot comedy topics of advent calendars, pesto and the closing time of his local park.

We are so excited to have Josh perform at Stand-Up Fest 2019. He is one of the UK’s best comics, so don’t miss this chance to see him in one of London’s friendliest and most intimate venues.

Stand-Up Fest 2019

Stand Up Fest 2019 is getting ever closer, so once again we are turning the spotlight on one of our star performers. Next up, is THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND – it’s NICK HELM.

Nick is one the UK’s best loved comedians, musicians and actors. He’s been a regular on our screens since his TV comedy debut on Russell Howard’s Good News in 2010. Since then he’s gone on to conquer the box with regular appearances on 8 out of 10 Cats, Live at the Apollo and even Celebrity Mastermind. Here he is on Comedy Central’s Drunk History hilariously explaining the Battle of Hastings after a few wines:

“Pretty f*cking amazing. A true comedy daredevil”

Time Out

As well as being an incredibly impressive stand up comedian – he has won more awards than you can shake a stick at (including the South Bank Sky Arts Award) – Nick is also a brilliant actor. He is BAFTA nominated for his short film, Elephant, but is probably best known for his starring role in the smash hit sitcom – Uncle. Here’s a clip from the first episode:

“The man is brutal, but by AC/DC he’s talented with it”

TheLatest.co.uk

If that’s still not enough talent for you, Nick is also a kick-ass musician as well. Check him out on BBC3 with his band Nick Helm and The Helmettes (great name!):

Nick hasn’t performed at Edinburgh for the last six years which is why his new show is called Phoenix from the Flames. He’s back – and it’s not to be missed.

Nick will be performing that show at Stand-Up Fest 2019 and we can’t wait. So grab some tickets and come and see Mr Helm does what he does best – make you laugh!

Stand-Up Fest 2019

Tanyalee is one of most popular headliners at The Stand-Up Club and here are her feisty responses to our very silly questions.

NAME: Tanyalee Davis

TWITTER: @TanyaleeDavis

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR COMEDY: Tales and adventures of a ginger dwarf on a scooter

WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO FIRST GET UP THERE AND GIVE COMEDY A TRY:I never aspired to be a comedian but I was dating a guy who was an amateur comedian ( and probably still is) and I watched him at an open mic (my first time at a comedy club) and he was shit and I knew I could do it!

FAVOURITE STAND-UP COMEDIAN: Robin Williams

BEST EVER SITCOM: Frazier

WHAT DO YOU DISLIKE THE MOST ABOUT THE COMEDY INDUSTRY: The nepotism and having to play ‘the game’. Also that female comedians are not seen as funny.

DOES YOUR PARTNER (IF APPLICABLE) LIKE COMEDY, AND THAT YOU ARE A COMEDIAN: My partner doesn’t like hanging around comedians cuz all we talk is comedy. He is supportive of me.

TOUGHEST TOWN/CITY TO PLAY AND WHY: Essex cuz they seem up their own asses

WHICH OTHER COMEDIAN WOULD YOU PAY TO WATCH: I’d pay to watch Tim Minchin, Sarah Millican and John Bishop

WHAT ELSE DO YOU GET UP TO APART FROM MAKING PEOPLE LAUGH: I spearhead an anti-bullying campaign called GR8 AS U R as well as the #ScooterGirlCampaign where I advocate for equal rights for disabled people on UK transport.

WHICH FAMOUS PERSON WOULD YOU LIKE TO CUSTARD-PIE IN THE FACE: I’d throw custard pie at John Bishop only if I can lick it off him.
